Sri Lanka recorded no new COVID-19 patients yesterday, resulting in total cases remaining at 824 and the number of active patients at 575, while health authorities continued their efforts to test and treat people.

The Sri Lanka Army and Navy yesterday released 256 people who had completed the mandatory quarantine program at five quarantine centres countrywide. The group was released after PCR testing, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said in a press release issued last evening.

The Sri Lanka Navy has moved seven individuals who were identified as drug addicts to a rehabilitation centre in Urapola, Nittambuwa, managed by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, eight patients recovered from the virus and were discharged yesterday, pushing the total number of persons who have recovered to 240.

The highest number of 181 COVID-19 patients was being treated at the Navy Hospital in Welisara, while 119 were undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID).

A total of 85 COVID-19 patients were being treated at the Colombo East Base Hospital, with 60 being treated at the Homagama Base Hospital, 59 at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, 53 at the Welikanda Base Hospital and 18 at the Iranawila Hospital.

According to the NOCPC, 5,728 persons who completed quarantine programs at military-run quarantine centres have returned to their homes as of yesterday, while another 4,931 remain in quarantine in 39 centres countrywide.

A total of 390 sailors from the Navy have tested positive for COVID-19 as of last morning, the NOCPC added.
