The online sale of liquor passed its first hurdle with approval given from the Finance Ministry, and now only needs final approval from the COVID Task Force before being given the green light.
The Excise Department confirmed yesterday that the Finance Ministry has agreed in principle for online sales during the COVID third wave-induced travel restrictions.
However, the Department has written to the COVID Task Force for final approval.
If cleared, licensed supermarket chains and those having Excise R.B.4 license will be allowed to sell liquor online with conditions, the Excide Department’s Media Spokesman Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said.
