The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) will trade on Thursday 4 June despite countrywide curfew on account of Poson holidays and COVID-19 mitigation measures.
The CSE in consultation with the Securities and Exchange Commission has decided to keep the market open for a limited time on 4 June from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Market participants have welcomed the move on the basis that crisis or no, markets have to function.
Both the CSE and the SEC came under flak for closing the market for 7 weeks on account of COVID-19, despite bond markets and tea auctions continuing, despite curfew and social distancing measures that prevailed in the country since 20 March 2020
