Cabinet approves recruitment of 2,003 public sector employees

The Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday approved implementing the recommendations of the second report from a committee appointed to review public sector recruitment and staff management.

The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, conducted an assessment of vacancies across Government institutions.

The report identified 4,987 existing vacancies across institutions under 11 Ministries and five Provincial Councils.

“However, based on staffing needs and financial considerations, the committee recommended filling only 2,003 of these positions,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

The proposal to this effect, submitted by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
