Cabinet awards Trinco solar project to 3W Power Management

The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved to award a contract to build a solar power project in Trincomalee to 3W Power Management Ltd.

The move indicates Government efforts on a rapid renewable energy generation plan, in a bid to overcome the energy and economic crises.

Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena who submitted the proposal to this effect said the approval was given after considering the recommendation of the Technical Evaluation Committee.

Following the initial Cabinet nod on 18 January to utilise land belonging to State-run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Short Wave Transmission Centre located in Kuchchaveli Divisional Secretariat, the Government floated Expression of Interest (EOIs) to which seven companies had responded to set up the solar farm.
