Cabinet Spokesman and Minister
Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa
The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday green lighted presenting the Finance Commission’s recommendations on Provincial Council resource allocations for 2025 to Parliament.
This decision is in line with the Article 154R (7) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, which mandates such submissions.
The Finance Commission, entrusted under Article 154R of the Constitution, is tasked with determining the principles for resource distribution to Provincial Councils and advising on grants from the National Budget. The Commission recently submitted its report detailing the recurrent and capital expenditure requirements for each Provincial Council.
“These grants are crucial for Provincial Councils to meet operational costs and implement development initiatives in their respective regions,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
