Cabinet green-lights PPP for ‘Cooperative Square’ trade centre project

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the implementation of a proposed project through a public-private-partnership (PPP) to establish a cooperative trade centre named ‘Cooperative Square.’ 

On 27 November 2023 the Cabinet decided to direct the National Development Committee for its recommendations on the proposed project. It was tasked to identify suitable investors through a process of soliciting aspirations, without imposing a burden on the consolidated fund, based on recommendations. 

Subsequently, the Committee recommended the implementation of the project, leading to the approval of the Cabinet paper presented by the Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando.
