The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved publication of a gazette notification for the draft bill on Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and its submission to Parliament for approval.

“The draft bill prepared by the legal draftsman has received the Attorney General’s clearance and will now move forward for Parliamentary approval,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

He added that the bill is designed to strengthen the country’s legal framework against corruption and illicit asset accumulation.

The Proceeds of Crime Bill forms a key component of Sri Lanka’s commitment to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) corruption diagnostic report and action plan.
