The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved a proposal by Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana to allocate plots of land from regional industrial zones for the establishment of manufacturing plants.
“Land from 13 industrial zones for 25 investors were selected under the Regional Industrial Zones Development Program,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday.
Land will be allocated as part of the ‘Regional Industrial Zones Development Program’, which has been used with the objective of promoting the industries at the regional level.
“It is important to support the manufacturing industries, particularly the SMEs who do not have the financial capacity to expand their production lines. The establishment of more factories reflects on the higher gross domestic product (GDP), employment opportunities, income generation and economic growth,” Gunawardena added.
