The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved directing the legal draftsman to finalise the amendments to the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003 without delay, incorporating additional revisions for international trademark registration.
The decision follows a previous Cabinet approval on 12 February 2020, to align Sri Lanka’s intellectual property laws with the Madrid Protocol under the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
However, the draft bill prepared for these changes has not yet been submitted to the Parliament.
Recognising the need for further revisions, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal submitted by Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe.
