The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved the recommendation to extend the retirement age of doctors.

“As per the decision, doctors aged 60, 61 and 62 years by this year will be allowed to serve until 61, 62 and 63, respectively till 31 December 2023,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

However, he said that doctors who complete 59 years of age should retire at the age of 60.

On 14 September, the Government issued a circular enforcing the decision to reduce the retirement age of public sector workers to 60 years following the 2022 Interim Budget proposal.
