The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved to extend the visas of Ukrainian and Russian tourists by two months, considering the prevailing situation between the two countries.
As reported by the Daily FT on Monday (ft.lk/business/Proposal-to-extend-visa-by-2-months-for-4-000-Ukrainian-tourists-before-Cabinet-today/34-731214), the proposal tabled by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga was approved unanimously by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The visas will be issued free-of-charge for both Ukrainian and Russian tourists, who are unable to return to their motherland given the unrest between Russia and Ukraine.
According to Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) data, nearly 4,000 Ukrainian tourists are currently in the country, while the number of Russian tourists staying in Sri Lanka is close to 11,500.
