The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Sunday approved recruiting a total of 7,456 employees for 10 State institutions.
Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, Cabinet Media Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the decision was made following requests made to the committee appointed to review the public service recruitment process.
“When we took over the Government, there were a number of issues regarding State service recruitments,” he said.
Dr. Jayatissa assured that these appointments are made based on priority and not another political batch of political appointees to the public sector workers.
“This is definitely not an effort to recruit people on a wholesale like it used to be. There are plenty of actual vacancies and this process is done carefully based on the committee recommendations,” he explained.
The approved recruitments will be distributed as follows:
Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Governments – 3,000
Ministry of Defence – 9
Ministry of Science and Technology – 179
Ministry of Finance, Plan Implementation and Economic Development – 132
Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education – 400
Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation – 161
Ministry of Health and Mass Media – 3,519
Western Provincial Council – 34
Eastern Provincial Council – 05
Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission – 17
