The Cabinet of Ministers approved to publishing of the revised Shop and Office Employees bill in the Government gazette and subsequently submitted it to the Parliament for deliberation for approval.
On 8 August 2023 Cabinet approved amending the Shop and Office Employees (regulation of employment and remuneration) Act No. 19 of 1954 to enable female employees’ engagement in night shifts in the offices where business activities are carried out based on information technology, knowledge outsourcing establishments, establishments obtaining the business process from outside, and the offices performing accounts, administration and technical activities for business establishments overseas.
“The draft Bill, prepared by the Legal Draftsman, received the Attorney General’s clearance,” a statement comprising weekly Cabinet Decisions issued by the Government Information Department noted.
The resolution put forth by the Justice, Prison Activities, and Constitutional Reforms Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
