The newly appointed seven-member Cabinet sub-committee tasked to spearhead the revival of tourism post-Easter Sunday extremist terror attacks will meet on Monday for the first time to take a final decision on a host of measures being discussed and proposed.
The members of the sub-committee includes Tourism Development Minister John Amaratunga (Chairman), Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama, Internal and Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena, Minister of Primary Industries Daya Gamage and Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Non-Cabinet Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva.
Its appointment was approved by the Cabinet on Tuesday, following the tourism industry presentation of the measures needed for a quick revival to President and Prime Minister on Monday. Sources said that the first meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee will focus on the specifics such as concessionary loans for hotels to meet working capital, stepped up security, lifting of travel advisories and fast-track appointment of a PR company to build Sri Lanka’s image in the international arena.
