Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday alleged that a cat’s paw was behind Roshan Ranasinghe’s sudden dismissal as Sports Minister.
Premadasa voiced his dissent, alleging that President Ranil Wickremesinghe impeded the Minister in carrying out his responsibilities and obstructed efforts to address issues within the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket.
“We condemn the actions of the President, who was appointed without a people’s mandate and has violated the country’s laws by impeding the Minister in his duties and further obstructed his efforts to address issues within Sri Lanka Cricket by stripping him of his ministerial roles,” he said.
The Opposition leader highlighted that cricket, a beloved sport among the Sri Lankan public, has become marred by corruption. “The people did not anticipate a corrupt regime following the removal of the Rajapaksa Government,” he noted.
Premadasa stated that it is unacceptable for the President and the Cabinet to have collaborated in hindering the efforts of the Minister, who valiantly fought against bandysm in sports administration.
He also said the Minister’s removal was not justified and there is a doubt that there is a cat’s paw behind his decision. He said there may be threats to the Minister’s life and therefore everyone must stand with him at this critical juncture.
