Banning the slaughter of cattle has been postponed by a month, Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday as the Government wished to consult stakeholders on their views.

Responding to questions at the weekly Cabinet briefing Rambukwella noted that the discussion at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) parliamentary group meeting was just a sounding out of ideas and was not a decision by the Government.
“It is best that other stakeholders are consulted on the repercussions of this move and therefore the Government has decided to postpone any ban for a month,” he said.
