Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Board member Champika Wijesuriya is tipped to be appointed as the Executive Director. Wijesuriya’s previous appointment was at Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).
The position was vacant following the resignation of the former Executive Director Thushan Gunawardena yesterday. Gunawardena stepped down from the position, citing the mounting pressure that followed after he took a stand against irregularities, as well as his opposition to signing certain impending agreements that he deemed to be in favour of importers and not in the consumers’ best interests. The Daily FT learns that the State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna is keen to appoint Wijesuriya in the post with immediate effect, with the aim of having him sign off on the agreements with importers by the end of this week.
