China donates Rs. 765 m worth emergency security equipment

China yesterday donated Rs. 765 million worth emergency security equipment under its emergency humanitarian aid post-Easter Sunday tragedy. 

President Maithripala Sirisena and the Chinese Ambassador Cheng Xueyuan participated in the handing over ceremony of the equipment.

The Chinese Embassy said, in response to the request of the Sri Lankan Government after the 21 April attacks, the Chinese Government decided to provide emergency aid of security equipment and help Sri Lanka implement more effective combat and prevention against terrorism, and to enhance Sri Lankan people’s safety.

The emergency equipment include 500 Hand-held Metal Detectors, 25 Walk-Through Safety Inspection Gates, 50 X-ray Security Inspection Systems, 25 Hand-held Vehicle Scanners, 3 Explosive Detectors, and 3 Explosives and Narcotics Trace Detectors. Besides the equipment, China will also send a technical team to Sri Lanka for installation and training.
