Clarification

The Daily FT article titled “President’s Chief of Staff arrested for Rs. 20 m bribe” that ran yesterday noted President Maithripala Sirisena was aware of the arrests before they were made. However, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) informed the Daily FT that the President had not been notified beforehand as this would have been in contravention of the commission’s independence. Daily FT regrets the error and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
