The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday decided to appoint a committee of experts to advice on the way forward for sustainable agriculture.
A set of intellects in the relevant field, who will be led by Sabaragamuwa University Professor of Environmental Agriculture Priyantha Indralal Yapa, will obtain the participation of all applicable parties to carry on with this process formally and receive the required guidance for taking policy decisions.
The Government said the Ministry of Agriculture and the institutions under its purview were working together to convert the entire local agriculture sector to the usage of organic fertiliser to ensure that people enjoy a meal void of poisons as described in the policy declaration of ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’.
The appointment of the committee was mooted by Agriculture Minister Mahindanada Aluthgamage.
