The Consumer Affairs Authority has successfully collected over Rs. 132.6 million through raids conducted during the first half of the year.

“In a resolute effort to uphold consumer rights and ensure fair trade practices, a total of 13,493 raids were carried out across the country during the first six months, whilst June saw a surge in action with 2,411 raids conducted,” a statement issued by authority noted.

Highlighting their ongoing commitment to safeguarding consumer interests, the Consumer Affairs Authority disclosed that 18 large-scale raids were conducted in July. These operations targeted various issues, including the improper display of prices, the sale of products above regulated price points, and the sale of expired goods.

Convictions resulting from these raids have resulted in fines over Rs. 23.64 million, marking the stringent stance taken by the Consumer Affairs Authority against those found guilty of violating regulations.

As concerns over food safety persist, the authority remains dedicated to increasing the frequency of such raids. These efforts underscore the Consumer Affairs Authority’s determination to uphold the integrity of the market and protect consumers from dishonest practices.
