Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara yesterday issued summons on former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, present Appeal Court judge A.H.M.D. Nawas and an ex-director of the Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) M.M.C. Ferdinandes to appear in Court on March to face corruption charges filed against them by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption. They were charged with thwarting police investigations into corruption that had taken place at LECO during December 2010 while purchasing land.
It was alleged that the three suspects had intentionally thwarted police investigations into an incident by making unfair interpretations into the case by asserting that there was no need for an investigation by the CID into the fraud.
However, the Attorney General subsequently observed that the three suspects had prevented investigations into a matter in which police investigations were essential.
