The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court recently issued an order to destroy counterfeit Polo Ralph Lauren T-shirts seized by the Special Crimes Investigation Bureau (SCIB) of Mirihana from Niromi Trade Centre, Nugegoda.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 against a Director of the said clothing shop when he pleaded guilty to engaging in the sale of such counterfeit apparel.
Ralph Lauren Corporation is a globally recognised leader in luxury lifestyle apparel, footwear and accessories. Its brand names, including “Ralph Lauren”, “Polo Ralph Lauren” and “Chaps” are widely known and sought after by consumers worldwide.
Polo/Lauren Co. L.P. initiated criminal action in the Magistrate’s Court of Nugegoda through their local representatives, Sudath Perera Associates, to protect their intellectual property rights.
The Court’s Order to destroy the counterfeit goods is a significant victory for the brand owners as it strengthens the legal enforcement of anti-counterfeiting laws.
The ruling also serves as a warning to counterfeiters that they will face legal action if they engage in such unlawful activities.
