Customs announces four-day rapid container clearance program

Sri Lanka Customs announced that with the fullest corporation of the joint trade unions launched a four day expedited container clearance process yesterday, aimed at clearing the backlog of containers destined to examination yards by 2 February. 

In a statement issued by the Department, it noted that all examination yards and valuation directorate will function from yesterday till Sunday (2 February) with full staff until all the containers queued up have been cleared.

“Therefore, all consignees, clearing agents and transporters are hereby requested to extend their fullest cooperation by attending to their tasks on time, so that the backlog can be cleared within the period,”Customs Media Spokesman and Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda stated. 

He assured that all other government agencies working alone with Customs have been also informed to support this initiative.
