Customs embarks on electronic registration of stakeholders

  • Aims at streamlining and automate trader database 
  • Calls on existing and new stakeholders to register online before 31 Oct.
  • Entities and persons failing to register online will automatically become defunct

Sri Lanka Customs yesterday commenced the electronic registration of its customers in a move to streamline and automate the trader data base.

The new registration process will also require importers and exporters, shipping agents and freight forwarders, customs house agencies and wharf representatives, BOI ventures involved in imports and exporters, unaccompanied customs baggage (UCB) warehouse operators and courier service existing and new, to register online with Sri Lanka Customs on or before 31 October.

“In the modern information era, electronic records are safer and infallible hence the opportunity to safeguard in the interests both service provider and the clients. Therefore, upgrading the trader registration system to an electronic mode is of great important,” Sri Lanka Customs Director General Major General (Retd.) G. Vijitha Ravipriya said.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka Customs facilities of the entities and persons who do not register electronically will automatically become defunct immediately after the deadline. 

Instructions on the online registration procedure are available on Sri Lanka Customs’ official website and further information/classifications could be obtained from the Risk Management Unit of Sri Lanka Customs.
