DCS kicks off enterprise survey on impact of COVID-19 on key businesses

The Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) has announced the launch of an online survey to assess the impact of COVID-19 on industry, construction, trade and services sectors. 

DCS said the world has been facing the largest economic crises which had ever faced due to COVID-19 pandemic, after the economic recession of 1930s. Under the globalised economy, many activities of the Sri Lankan economy have also been affected in varying degrees by this pandemic, and as a result many economic activities of certain industries operated in Sri Lanka are in the in the verge of collapsing, posing threats to the thousands of employees losing their jobs. 

“At this juncture, proper long-term plans are to be formulated and implemented based on accurate and timely information immediately, to support evidenced based decision making of the country, to revive the partially collapsed or stagnated economy towards the economic prosperity and emancipation,” DCS said.  

In that context DCS being the main governmental statistical organisation in Sri Lanka, has initiated an enterprise survey, via representative sample of more than 15,000 entities, encompassing both the informal and formal sectors, to measure the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the Sri Lankan economy. 

DCS said interested businesses and entrepreneurs can participate in this online survey by clicking the “Click here” icon appearing in the Website of this Department (www.statistics.gov.lk), or else can download the pdf questionnaire by clicking the “Download” icon there. 

The completed downloaded questionnaire should be dispatched to the department of Census and Statistics via its fax number of 011-2147412 or by emailing it to the [email protected] or to address, Industry, Construction, Trade and Services Division, Department of Census and Statistics, No. 306/71, Polduwa Road, Battaramulla.
