The first ever DigiEcon Global Investment Summit (DEGIS) 2024 will be held today at the Cinnamon Grand, under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey. DEGIS 2024 is a flagship initiative of the DigiEcon Sri Lanka 2030 program, which aims to accelerate the national digital economy.

The summit is organised by the Government of Sri Lanka and coordinated by the Technology Ministry and State Minister Kanaka Herath. The event underscores the country’s commitment to harnessing digital innovation for economic growth.

The World Bank Group, a strategic partner, alongside global giants such as United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Gates Foundation, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mastercard, Huawei and Microsoft has joined forces for this significant event.

Prominent venture capital firms, including Accelerate Asia, NVentures, SBK Ventures and Tenity, will also participate, aiming to unlock Sri Lanka’s untapped digital potential and explore the vast opportunities within the country’s tech landscape.

State Minister Kanaka Herath said the summit aligns closely with the objectives outlined in the National Digital Strategy 2030. It provides a unique platform to showcase Sri Lanka’s dynamic tech ecosystem to international investors.

DEGIS 2024 facilitates meaningful collaborations between local and global stakeholders, offers a venue for knowledge exchange, and promotes investment opportunities. It also aims to simplify the process for digital enterprises to establish themselves in Sri Lanka.

With this initiative, Sri Lanka is poised to make significant strides in its digital transformation, attracting substantial foreign investment and positioning itself as a leading digital economy in the region.
