Dinesh new BOI Chairman

Top business leader and professional Dinesh Weerakkody has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Dinesh replaces Raja Edirisuriya who was appointed in mid-December last year by the then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Dinesh is also the Chairman of the Port City Economic Commission of Sri Lanka apart from being an Advisor on Treasury Affairs to President Wickremesinghe.

President Wickremesinghe also appointed top economist Dr. Dushni Weerakoon, former Secretary of the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade Chandani Wijewardena and Eraj de Silva to the Board of the BOI.

Dinesh served as the former Chairman of the Hatton National Bank and Commercial Bank of Ceylon and is the Vice Chairman of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon.

He is the immediate Past Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka and the current Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors of Sri Lanka, and the Director of several companies.



Weerakkody is a former Chairman of the Employees’ Trust Fund Board of Sri Lanka, and the National Human Resource Development Council of Sri Lanka. He was also an Advisor to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2001-2004, the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, and the Minister of Tourism Development.
