Dullas Alahapperuma

Losing candidate Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday insisted that the majority of people wish for a consensus Government and the quest remains and his defeat was not a setback but will fight on.

Speaking in Parliament after the final vote was announced, Alahapperuma, who secured only 82 votes against victor Ranil Wickremesinghe’s 134, said that they came to a consensus with the objective of changing the corrupt political system and he did not consider this as a defeat, but as an encouraging guidance.

He said the consensus they reached was an example for the whole world.

Alahapperuma said most of the political parties came to an agreement leaving behind racial, religious and political differences and added that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa made a huge sacrifice withdrawing even his candidacy.

He said the primary responsibility of all the parliamentarians should be to win back the lost confidence in politicians. He said he wished that the politicians would at least now listen to the voice of the suffering people and youth.

Alahapperuma said politicians had only thought of their families in the past and added that they wanted to think of the people outside the ‘Diyawannawa’.
