The Government yesterday said that import of latest security equipment will be duty free to all to strengthen vigilance and surveillance post Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Effective 7 May, import of handheld metal detectors, walk-through metal detectors, baggage x-ray inspection equipment and vehicle scanners will be duty-free and free of Customs levy except Nation Building Tax.
State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne said the move is to help not only travel and tourism but State institutions, private sector, schools and hospitals.
