ECSL to publish Presidential election notice in two weeks

Election Commission of Sri Lanka (ECSL) Chairperson, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake has confirmed that the “Presidential election notice” will be published within two weeks. 

He said although the Commission is constitutionally empowered to call for the Presidential election after 17 July the election date will not be announced on that day.



Rathnayake assured the Commission will meet before 31 July to discuss and announce the scheduled dates for the Presidential election process, aiming to provide clarity by the end of July.

He outlined that the election period will begin with the publication of the Presidential election notice, with nominations accepted between 16 and 21 days from that date. Polling is set to occur four to six weeks after the notice is published.

Additionally, Rathnayake emphasised that the Presidential election must be held between 17 September and 16 October in accordance with constitutional requirements.
