Eight-member committee to restructure CEB

• Committee tasked to provide restructuring proposals with technical support from various development institutions within a month

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has appointed an eight-member committee to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board.

He said the committee members were appointed last Friday and are tasked with proposing recommendations to restructure the debt-ridden CEB within a month. The first meeting of the Committee was held on Friday.

The Committee comprises veterans from both the public and private sectors. They include; former Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, former Power and Energy Ministry Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando, former CEB Assistant General Manager Dr. Susantha Perera, former Board of Investment Chairman Thilan Wijesinghe, former Attorney General Department Senior State Counsel Attorney-at-Law Harsha Fernando, Petroleum Development Authority Chairman and Port City Economic Commission Director-General Saliya Wickramasuriya, former Public Enterprise Reforms Commission Legal Consultant Nihal Jayawardena PC and Power and Energy Ministry Director Chandana Wijesinghe.

The Ministry said that the responsibility of restructuring the CEB was handed over to the members of the committee, which was approved by the Cabinet.

The committee will provide restructuring proposals with the technical support of various development institutions within a month.

On 1 August, the Cabinet of Ministers approved restructuring the CEB and appointing a committee to extend their recommendations on proposed reforms within a month from their appointment.
