Technology Professionals of Sri Lanka (TPSL) yesterday came out in support of Sri Lanka Telecom-Mobitel’s former Chairman Rohan Fernando saying the successor had omitted some important facts in his recent communique to the staff.
Taking to Facebook the TPSL said the new Chairman hadn’t revealed that Fernando worked without a salary during his entire tenure. They explained that the vehicle provided to Fernando followed the correct procurement process and received Board approval. It was obtained after selling an ageing V8 vehicle that was eight years old and had covered nearly 300,000 kilometres. The sale of the V8 generated Rs. 35 million and the outflow for the new vehicle was only Rs. 36 million.
They pointed out that Fernando was entitled to a car and a spare vehicle but he only used one, as he had to travel extensively, especially during the pandemic and to unify the scattered and divided sections of the SLT Group.
“These are cheap theatrics but the staff and unions are not fooled by such things,” TPSL said. It also noted that at the end of the previous Chairman’s term, SLT progressed in every aspect that was unprecedented.
