The Court of Appeal has moved the Fundamental Rights (FR) petitions filed seeking an order to invalidate the agreement reached by the Government with Indian Adani Green Energy company for a wind power project in Wedithalathivu, Mannar to 23 May.

Adani Green Energy, which is a renewable energy company that develops, owns, and operates solar, wind, and hybrid power plants, has come to an agreement to invest in a $ 442 million wind power project in Mannar and Pooneryn in northern Sri Lanka.

The petition filed by Green Movement of Sri Lanka (GMSL) Chairman Sankha Chandima Abhayawardena was taken up before the Appeals Court judge U.M.B. Karaliyadda, yesterday (16 Jan.).

During the trial, the State Counsel informed the Court of Appeal that several crucial cases pertaining to Adani’s wind power project are scheduled to be taken up before the Supreme Court in March and that a final decision regarding the matter has not been arrived at as of yet.

Meanwhile, the Appeals Court judge ordered the hearing of the relevant petition to 23 May.
