Felicitation of doyen of Sinhala journalism Siri Ranasinghe

Siri Ranasinghe, regarded as a doyen of Sinhala journalism and the longstanding editor of Daily Lankadeepa, a sister paper of the Daily FT, was felicitated yesterday by his friends, well-wishers and colleagues.

Titled “Siri Asiri” the felicitation ceremony saw the attendance by two former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maithripala Sirisena, the clergy, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers, MPs, journalists and academia .

Ranasinghe has been the Editor of Lankadeepa for the past 33 years and was credited for giving leadership to make it as the most popular newspaper in Sri Lanka for the past 17 consecutive years judged by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.

The ceremony will be held under the patronage of Chairman of the Wijeya Newspapers Ranjith Wijewardene.

Special commendation lectures were delivered by the Chief Prelate of Amarapura Sri Dharmarakshitha Maha Nikaya, Most Ven. Thirikunamalaye Ananda Thera, retired principal Deiyandara Amara Gunasekara, veteran journalist Thilakaratne Kuruwita Bandara and Rajarata University Mass Communications Section Prof. Sena Nanayakkara. The ceremony was compered by veteran journalist Saman Athaudahetti.
