Four new COVID-19 patients, total cases 893

  • Number of active cases rises to 502
  • Sixteen more persons recover
  • 435 persons released from quarantine centres 
  • 350 Sri Lankans to return from Maldives today

Four persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 893.

Of the total count, 66 were identified among local communities at quarantine centres and 45 were identified among overseas arrivals at quarantine centres, while 150 were identified from the Colombo District, 36 from Gampaha, and 35 from Puttalam.

Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe, in a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, confirmed that two of the new patients were Navy personnel. A total of 456 cases have been identified from the Sri Lanka Navy. Of the 585 cases identified since 22 April, 490 are Navy personnel and their close contacts.

The new cases have increased the total active cases to 502, which includes 216 at the Navy Hospital, 111 at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), and 81 at the Colombo East Base Hospital.

The total recoveries in the country has risen to 382 with sixteen new recoveries yesterday. Of these, seven were receiving treatment at the Homagama Base Hospital, six at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, two at the Colombo East Base Hospital, and one at the NIID.

In addition to this, 105 suspected patients are under investigation at various hospitals, including 17 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, 13 at the Negombo District General Hospital, and 13 at the National Hospital of 

Sri Lanka.

The number of people under observation at quarantine centres is currently 3,444. The Sri Lanka Army, on its website, stated that 435 persons left for home yesterday, having completed the quarantine process. This includes 129 from Pompeimadu, 127 from Punani, 98 from Boossa, 69 from Damminna, and 12 from Pallekele.This brings the number of persons who have left the 40 quarantine centres managed by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and Sri Lanka Air Force to 8,099.

Sri Lankans who are being flown down from various countries will complete the mandatory quarantine process at the centres once they arrive in the country and the Sri Lanka Army said 350 persons are to arrive from Maldives today.
