The crisis-hit economy got a fresh shock with the electricity regulator approving a debilitating 10-hour power cut today, sparking anger within the private sector and the public. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in its latest Demand Management Schedule has proposed 10-hour power cuts today, resulting in many parts of the country facing up to 10-hours of power cuts within the day.

“In the event, CEB is compelled to take demand management measures due to inadequate power generation, as a result of fuel shortage and unavailability of generators,” the CEB in a statement said. It also said that all the feeders assigned to a particular group might not be interrupted depending on the demand and available generation capacity at a particular time.
