The Finance Ministry yesterday raised fuel prices in line with the fuel pricing formula adopted by the Government last year.
Accordingly the price of one litre of 92 Octane has increased by Rs. 3 and 95 Octane by Rs. 5. Diesel prices remain the same but Super Diesel has also increased by Rs. 2.
After the latest price hikes a litre of 92 Octane has increased to Rs. 135 from Rs. 132 while a litre of 95 Octane has risen from Rs. 159 to Rs. 164. Diesel remains at Rs.104 per litre but Super Diesel has increased from Rs. 134 to Rs. 136.
The Finance Ministry in its statement said the Government was forced to increase prices as it had not done so during the April New Year as a temporary relief to the public. International fuel prices have increased in recent weeks after the US rolled back exemptions given previously to China, India, Japan and Turkey to purchase oil from Iran.
