Fuller bench at SC to hear FR petition against holding Presidential poll

The Chief Justice has nominated a fuller bench comprising five judges of the Supreme Court to hear the Fundamental Rights petition seeking an order restraining the Election Commission from taking any further steps to conduct the Presidential election in 2024.

A five-judge-bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya will hear this petition on Monday. Businessman Chamindra Dayan Lenawa, a resident of Panadura is seeking an order preventing the Election Commission from holding the Presidential election until the Supreme Court makes a determination regarding the tenure of the incumbent President.
