An Extraordinary Gazette, signed by the Ratnapura District Secretary, has been released, detailing regulations for the Sri Pada pilgrim season that commenced on Monday (25). The Gazette notice has detailedt out the following rules:
Specified locations have been approved for accommodation, and the setting up or maintenance of temporary housing in other areas prohibited. Written permission of the District Secretary or an authorised officer is now required for the construction of temporary or permanent structures. Beggars are not permitted to seek or receive alms. Distribution of alms to beggars within the Sri Pada compound area or wayside Ambalam premises has been strictly prohibited. Bathing or washing clothes has been confined to designated safe areas as identified and stated in the Gazette.
Improper disposal of polythene and plastic along the pilgrim route, within the Sri Pada compound, around restrooms, or in the environment has been banned.
The Gazette has explicitly prohibited the initiation of bonfires or any activity that may lead to wildfires in the Sri Pada nature reserve.
Distinct regulations have been outlined for trade and dansals during the Sri Pada pilgrim season. Pilgrims will not be allowed to remain in the Sri Pada compound after completing their religious observances and will be required to depart once their worship is concluded.
