Gotabaya tasks armed forces to maintain public order

Sri Lanka’s armed forces have been given the task of maintaining public order in all 25 districts of the country with effect from 22 November. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification tasking all members of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force to maintain public order in the 25 districts of the country and the territorial water adjacent to the coastal districts.

The President has issued this special order in accordance with the powers vested upon the President by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40).
