The Government has awarded contracts for the development of projects totalling 165 megawatts (MW) across 20 grid substations.
The approval was granted during the Cabinet meeting held on 2 September, with the exception of contracts for the Anuradhapura, Galle, and Deniyaya substations, which were later awarded following the rejection of appeals by unsuccessful bidders.
The Appeal Procurement Board rejected the appeals related to these three substations, clearing the way for the contracts to be awarded based on the recommendations of the Negotiation Consensus Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.
In the Anuradhapura Grid Substation, contracts were awarded for the development of 10 MW of renewable energy capacity.
The contract winners include:
- Fentons Smart Facilities Ltd. (3 MW)
- Hayleys Fentons Ltd. (3 MW)
- Nanila Publication Ltd. (2 MW)
- Ceylex Renewable Ltd. (2 MW)
In the Deniyaya Grid Substation, contracts were awarded for a total of 10 MW:
- Fortune Green Ltd. (3 MW)
- Solar One Asia Ltd. (5 MW)
- Austral Solar Ltd. (2 MW)
For the Galle Grid Substation, Austral Solar Ltd. was awarded a 1 MW contract.
These projects form part of Sri Lanka’s push to expand its renewable energy infrastructure and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The awarded contracts will contribute to the Government’s ambitious goal of generating 70% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at their last meeting on Friday.
