Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa this week presented to Cabinet a report containing complete details of assistance received by Sri Lanka from foreign countries and organisations in funds or medical equipment.
Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said steps will be taken to release the report to media so the public can learn of the assistance that has been provided so far. In addition to assistance from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank, the report also contains lists of what was given by China, Japan, India, South Korea, the US and several other nations.
“The Government will use all these funds and equipment to help the people of Sri Lanka. Assisting the public is the priority of the Government and everything is being done to contain the spread of COVID-19. There is no other purpose here,” Bandula Gunawardena said.
He also said the report will be released to select media outlets to disseminate the information to the public.
