Govt. extends rice imports via private sector till 10 January

The Government has extended the temporary lifting of rice import restrictions, allowing private importers to bring in rice without a licence till 10 January 2025 to address the ongoing shortage.

On 3 December, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the temporary removal of restrictions on rice imports till 20 December to ensure adequate stocks ahead of the festive season.

Since the lifting of the restrictions, it has been reported that private importers have brought in approximately 36,000 tons of rice.
