The Government yesterday issued a Gazette notification listing a maximum retail price on several types of rice.
It said 1 kg white/red nadu will be Rs. 220; 1 kg white/red samba is Rs. 230 and 1 kg keeri samba is Rs. 260.
Traders said the move is yet another frantic effort to control rice prices when the market is volatile with shortages. Recently the Government requested India and China to ship rice to ease off the supply side pressures in the market.
