The Government announced to maintain the current allowances for a total of 647,683 individuals, which includes kidney patients, disabled individuals, and low-income elderly citizens. This temporary arrangement will persist until a new scheme is developed.
Taking to Twitter, State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe noted that the necessary financial provisions are assigned to ensure the smooth disbursement of these allowances.
Semasinghe outlined that the Government aims to extend these allowances to benefit 517,962 elderly citizens, 88,602 disabled individuals, and 41,119 kidney patients. This initiative will include individuals, who were previously wait-listed under the ‘Aswesuma Welfare Benefits Program’.
“The payments will be made in the coming days,” he assured. For elderly citizens, the allocated funds can be collected from post offices, whereas disabled individuals and kidney patients can receive their payments from designated Divisional Secretariats.
