Govt. to conduct Economic Census in two stages

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved conducting an Economic Census in two stages, covering the years 2025 and 2026.

Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said it has been proposed that the economic census for agricultural activities be conducted in 2025 and for non-agricultural activities in 2026.Noting that the Department of Census and Statistics conducted its last Economic Census in 2013 and 2014, he said that the Department plans to conduct an economic census in 2025 and 2026 to update the data collected in the previous census, ensuring that agricultural and non-agricultural activities are addressed separately in two stages.

The proposal to this effect presented by President Anura Kumara Disanayake in his capacity as the Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers unanimously.
