Govt. to issue legal documents to those occupying State lands except Colombo, Gampaha

• Lands Commissioner calls for applications from those who have constructed permanent houses or used State land for agriculture or other development activities
• Move in keeping with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy statement ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’
• Applications close on 30 September

The Commissioner General of Lands has announced Government plans to issue legal documents to those who have constructed permanent houses on a State land or occupied State land by utilising it for agriculture or any development activity.

This policy will cover the entire island except the Colombo and Gampaha districts, where special development projects will be implemented on such lands.

The Government decision is in keeping with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy statement ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ on the management of State lands at the optimum level to enhance investment opportunities, promote local dairy production, and cultivate local food crops, which is one of the main objectives of the Government.

In keeping with this, the initiative has been taken to reach that goal by issuing legal documents immediately in a transparent manner to the persons who have developed State land without a formal document.

The clear title of the lands will be issued after confirming their eligibility, for which the Lands Commissioner has called for applications from eligible candidates falling into this category.

The applications must be sent to the Divisional Secretariat in which the land is located or to the respective Gram Niladhari, or Field Officer, on or before 30 September.
