The Government confirmed yesterday that the contents of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be revealed soon to the Cabinet Ministers, Opposition Leader, and Parliamentary Committees Chairmen.

“The Government does not have anything to hide in relation to the IMF agreement,” Acting Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said responding to a query at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

He said it will also be shared among the Chairmen of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), and Committee on Public Finance (COPF).

However, Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe categorically denied revealing the contents of the Staff-Level Agreement ahead of its finalisation process, citing they were on ‘radio silence’.

“Sri Lanka had 16 IMF programs in the past, and during that time when the Government reached a Staff-Level Agreement, the contents have never been disclosed in the Parliament or to the Cabinet. What we need to understand is that certain policies and measures are very market sensitive, particularly on the debt restructuring parameters. Those cannot be revealed in advance to the public,” he explained last week.
